About Us
Initially we limited our hiking to what we felt was “great” weather and rarely hiked during the “hot" summer months. Today we conduct three hikes a week, year around. We do, however, schedule the summer hikes earlier in the morning to avoid the extreme daytime temperatures.
Over the years we have established some traditional activities which include special hikes followed by a potluck lunch at one of the member’s home. In addition, we occasionally will hold a BBQ lunch at the conclusion of a hike. It has recently become a tradition for members of the hiking group to enjoy lunch together after many of the hikes and frequent the local eateries.
Our membership is comprised of hikers from all over Dona Ana County and beyond and we have developed a friendship that transcends the hiking experience. We don't actively seek new members, but rather rely on "word of mouth" and have found this to be the best way of adding to our membership.
Recently we have expanded our hikes, reaching out beyond the surrounding Las Cruces area, to include such far-away locations as Canyon De Chelly, Buckskin Gulch, Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, Monticello Canyon and many other more distant hiking adventures. On occasion we will schedule hikes in the mountain ranges of New Mexico and schedule camping/hiking trips to nearby and distant areas.
Over the years many friendships and close relationships have formed as the result of our hiking adventures together.
The excitement and appreciation for the outdoors, and the natural beauty of this area, keep all of our members coming back each week for another great adventure in both trail and off-trail hiking.
